Indianapolis Travel Story: Food

Posted by on Jan 31, 2014 in Published/Commercial, Travel | No Comments

We were back on the road again, and this time went back to Indianapolis. It turned out to be a combo travel story/hockey tournament for my nine year old, which made it all the more interesting. As always, I won’t get into the “details” as much here, as you’ll have to check out Amy’s travel story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch or the one we did nothing but eat, but I will highlight some of the foodie pics I did. One note about the trip though, this was the – snowstorm, rental car stranded on the highway, Enterprise Rental fiasco – I live tweeted about for a 14 hour period. For those that followed on Twitter, I hope you were entertained. To keep up with us as we do our travel stories, follow @LuxePhotoSTL.  Below, enjoy the visual food experience of what we did in Indy. Special thanks to @morgangreenlee for knowing the best places to hit in Indy!!! Here are links to our first trip to Indy as well as my image that made it to the Official Super Bowl Visitor’s Guide!

Above: THE Chicken and Waffles at Maxine’s. Can you believe we had 2 dinners scheduled that night so we stopped in to share 1 plate among the 4 of us.  I’ve never had Chicken and Waffles together – but heard about it a lot.  Wow. All breaks down to that sweet & savory together.  This was AMAZING!

Above: Plump’s Last Shot.  We heard this was the place for a pork tenderloin sandwich.  You can get it breaded (classic) or blackened so we got both.  Great flavors and my suggestion is to add something “wet” to the breaded sandwich.  I asked for some horseradish and it did the trick.  Great little bar and super friendly staff.  Try the Sun King Weemac beer with it!

Above: 3 Sister’s Cafe. Great little place for breakfast on our way out of Indy.  A couple breakfast sandwiches with potatoes loaded with flavor! My sandwich was on the specials board as the Big Mac Sandwich.  My oldest had the white mac n cheese which is a bit different than what he is used to, but right up OUR alley as grownups.

Above: Recess.  Set 4 course dining experience.  Food was amazing! Seriously.  Laid back, trendy atmosphere but fine dining food! It was the priciest of all the places we did but it was a very nice night – until we were stranded on the highway afterward.  But let’s not muddy our food picture review! All I could remember as we were eating each course was saying, “Wow.” Totally recommended.
