2013 Branson Trip for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Home & Away Section

Earlier in March, we were off again to Branson, Missouri to do another travel story for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Wife’s story and details here and the Sunday 4-7-2013 Home & Away section. Our main goal: The new wood thrill ride coaster – Outlaw Run at Silver Dollar City. Below are some of the pictures featured in the paper as well as a few of my favorites. I’m also doing a lot of video through my newest social media addiction, Vine. If you’d like to follow my account on Vine, just download the app on any iphone or ipad. It’s native to just the iphone now, but Android users should be able to use it soon. My Vine name: Luxe Photography – it’s all behind the scenes stuff on shoots as well as other creative “stuff” to share with you.

Above: one of four Track locations in Branson.  Lot’s of driving area and it’s pretty fast.  Especially coming off the spiral downhill…with an expensive camera in hand. Here’s a Vine video we did in the car.

Above: Branson Cedars Resort.  The demo tree house and the furnishings inside were awesome! We didn’t get much time to explore the grounds but what I remember that night was looking out on a clear night at all the stars and the next morning looking at a few of several dozen wood carvings in the trees.  I called this guy Tree Beard.  Tree Beard also had an abandoned wasp nest inside him.  Here’s a neat 360 Vine video I did of the tree house.

Above: Inside the Ripley’s Believe it or Not building.  We had a good time going through all the weird oddity collections inside.  So many things to look at and interact with that it kept my boys entertained for a while.  The picture of my son inside the light strobe room doesn’t do the vertigo justice.  So, I had to create a Vine video as well.

Above: One of the big shows we hit in Branson.  Six.  The six brother’s do a pretty good job of entertaining the crowd with oldies and current hit’s – like Justin Bieber.  Lot’s of visuals and comedy as well.  The biggest thing I’ll remember is how nice and helpful the ushers and manager was in getting me situated to get pictures taken.  For me, personally, I wish the political/religious overtones toward the end were for another show they offered for their fans.  But, I really enjoyed a lot of their performance!

Above: Silver Dollar City’s NEW Outlaw Run.  Ok, so I didn’t ride it myself, but my wife did for her story.  She loved it and everyone coming off the ride were high fiving and saying it was awesome.  It was a neat media day to attend and I really appreciate just how nice and courteous the Silver Dollar People were in shuttling all of us around to get great video and pictures.  I was able to get some exclusive pics like you see above in areas that are normally reserved for officials.  The top left picture was the first person on media day to warm things up before they started filling them up.  Also enjoyed talking with Mayor Presley as we were trying to scoop each other on the same picture of one of the first group of riders.  So I got a pic of her getting a pic instead. Some Vine videos here, the drop here, and first media cart that was full.

Above: Big Cedar Resort.  This place is massive.  I agree with the people there we talked to that visitors could just stay on the land there and never have to go anywhere else.  You can’t simply walk everywhere.  Shuttles.  Kid’s fishing tournament.  Horseback riding (Vine video).  Swimming.  That’s just what we did in the short time there.

Above: Dogwood Canyon.  Any kind of nature person is gonna want to do this.  You can walk, bike ride or take a guided tram, which is what we did with the kids and grandparents.  Next time we’re going to picnic and spend more times with the trails and waterfalls.   The close up elk, bison and long horn steer were a trip.  I got a little too excited with wanting to get a picture as they came right up to us. I probably looked ridiculous climbing over people to get a good shot!

Just added this picture cause I usually hate the ones I’m normally in (sound familiar?). My Father-in-Law got this one.  One of my favorites ever.
