Blogging Has to be Easier

Why in the world would I start up yet another project, i.e. this blog, when I have a pretty full plate of starting and running a business, but also have a full time website up for History Speaks already? I sense this is a question I’ll have to have a good answer for my wife when she asks tomorrow why I spent hours downstairs in my office.

The reason being is I hate websites. At least creating and learning the intricacies of codes and such. I wouldn’t say I’m an expert in the computer realm, but seeing as though I do have a background in computers (even though it was selling computers at one time), I am completely lost when it comes to setting up a website.

Even when companies try to make it easier for “code newbs” by giving you templates where all you have to do is just fill stuff in. Yeah, that works in theory. But you quickly find out that the templates really don’t do what you want them to do. How you want them to look. So you start customizing. And that is where the hell begins!

I have learned a lot about website design, or my lack of skills in designing them. I almost feel as if I have spent more hours working with the main website HistorySpeaks.net, than I have with doing any of the Photographic Narratives or taking pictures. I know my wife go crazy when she learns that I’ve spent five hours on a Sunday night just figuring out how to make a photo link on my site and have it actually point people to the correct url.

She says, “Just leave the site alone for now. Work on getting more Narratives done.” I get that. And my website doesn’t look right to me. None of it. Cause I’m used to being a “customer” of websites that look cool and snazzy. Not creating them.

So back to why I started the blog. Well, simply put, it’s just simple to use and operate. I’ve been using Blogger for a while now with our own family website and it is easy, reliable…and did I say easy?

I needed a way to communicate with people through History Speaks, but the main site just wouldn’t allow that. I’m sure there is some function box that is just waiting for me to put a checkmark in that would allow me to have a full functioning blog WITHIN the original site.

I just can’t find it.

And this here is so much easier.

So this will allow me to update and actually take things a little deeper into what we do. Some stories behind CREATING the Photographic Narratives as well as some photo gigs that come my way. Oh yeah, and as an added treat, the story behind starting a business up from scratch. That’s probably more entertaining for some of you anyway.
