A Gift for Daddy Serving in Iraq

Last month, Babymoon Boutique had a “Hugs and Kisses” photo contest and we came across one of their families that were a finalist for top picture, that had daddy serving over in Iraq. After pulling a few strings, we contacted the wife of Captain Jeff, and we set up a secret photo shoot to have some special pictures taken for a family album. She was going to give it to him when he was on leave (end of April) when he would see baby Kailie on her one year birthday, and that he could take back to Iraq and have “to kiss each night” before he went to bed.

Many thanks to Babymoon Boutique, Captain Jeff, Kailie (Happy Birthday!) and especially mommy Emi for keeping it all together here on the home front, while daddy is overseas protecting and serving our country. Below is a quick bio of the family and some pictures from our photo shoot.

Jeff and Emi met through friends the spring of their junior year in college while Jeff was in the Army ROTC program. After a couple years of being long distance while Emi finished her Master’s degree and Jeff continued his military training, they got married on February 14, 2007. They started their family that summer after Emi left the big city and moved to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO.

Jeff is a Captain in the United States Army and is currently deployed in Iraq with the 463rd Military Police Company. His company deployed on Kailie’s 2-month birthday and pictures have been such an essential part in keeping Jeff connected and seeing Kailie’s growth and progress. Their company’s mission is to train Iraqi policeman so that they will be able to run their own police stations. Emi is a music therapist, music teacher and a stay at home mom. Emi’s father is Japanese and she was raised for most of her childhood in Kobe, Japan. Her mother is a blonde-haired blue-eye American, which, combined with Jeff’s coloring, explains all of Kailie’s recessive genes! Kailie is a very active baby and is more than a full-time job. She loves to dance, play, sing, talk and read books. She adores her dolls and it was one of her first words when she was 8-months old.

The first one is a favorite of mine for what most people can’t see. We had shot a few pictures of Emi holding Kailie up and down, when all of a sudden, Kailie lets go of a string of slobber that hits mom straight in the face.

The next picture I think sums up those days when daddy is away.

Who doesn’t love a good crying baby picture!

This last picture is attributed to a lot of luck and being in the right place and the right time. This was literally our last shot of the session and I am actually getting ready to put my gear away when I caught mom and Kailie looking out over the lake. I grab what I can and I think paints the perfect picture for all of those families that have loved ones fighting overseas.
