2012 Jamaica Travel Story – St. Louis Post Dispatch
A couple months ago, we were off to Jamaica to do travel story for my wife’s section in the St. Louis Post Dispatch – you can read her article that will give an overview of all the fun things we did as a family. Both of my boys, 5 and 7, LOVED our beach vacation. We got to experience a few different things that were more family friendly than we did when my wife and I honeymooned there almost 15 years ago. As with all of our trips, I’m fortunate and feel very lucky to have the opportunity, but no one believes me when I say I stress out the entire time because I’m always on the lookout for a cover page shot. The Post Dispatch has some of the best photographers around, and I want to make sure I do my very best to offer up some photos that would meet their standards – and not embarrass the wife. That’s why I usually carry around an ungodly amount of gear – all day – just to make sure I get THE shot, and one worthy of the Home & Away section for the paper. The photos below are some that were featured in the paper back in June, as well as some of my personal favorites.
The cover shot for the Jamaica story in the Home & Away travel section of the St. Louis Post Dispatch. Thanks to my Twitter friend @jaynoe for suggesting we go to Rick’s Cafe at the last minute.
I love on location food and night shots. Tripod is a must for both with the low lighting at times. And yes, the french toast sticks were as good as they looked.
Sesame Street parade was a huge hit for young and old. Many people, including this Zac Effron look-alike, tried their hands at new adventures – even if he was only able to stand for a few seconds.
A couple of fun shots of my boys. This was our first big beach vacation and they could have stayed there forever. Waters were shallow and safe for all.
Some of the locals around our resort. The solicitation to buy things at first is a bit frustrating but once you turn them down a couple times, they do let you just relax. All genuinely nice with the kids and a great sense of humor. Good salespeople.
I always consider the ride from the airport to the resort a theme park ride all on its own. Our driver, at right, stopped for gas, snacks and food for his dinner, but it did offer me time to snap a few candid local shots. At left, daughter and father waiting for the bus in the rain.
But one single herb can’t produce an erection without proper buy cialis pharmacy sexual stimulation. Impotency has said to be an viagra without prescriptions canada embarrassment factor for many men. There are no recent studies, which are conducted to back jealt.mx buy generic levitra such claims. Once taken discount online viagra remains effective for about 36 hours.
Why yes, that would be me in the pool with my camera gear. But you can’t get an idea of the swim up pool bar without getting wet.
Rick’s Cafe. A staple of local and visitors alike for cliff diving, music and beer. Locals would jump from trees or backflip off from the cliff – if you were to put a tip in the jar that was passed around.
On our travels from one side of the island to the other, we stopped for a dolphin show and some lunch at a roadside eatery for some slow cooked chicken and pork.
Sunset over a sand castle that took hours to build. Glass bottom boat ride where we learned not to handle star fish out of the water for too long. They float when they die. Waterslides that seem to go on for miles.
This was another one of my favorite “grand” shots that told so much of the story of the trip. Hard day of play followed by a relaxing and beautiful night.
